INDEPENDENT EMO/INDIE/POP

Luke Leighfield is a 22-year-old piano pop troubador from Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, UK. He has released two albums, one split 10” single with Sam Isaac and countless demos. His debut single ‘If You Haven’t Got Anything To Say’ entered the UK indie singles chart at number 5 upon its release in June 2008. To date, he has played around 350 gigs in over ten countries, including Russia and China, many of them in fans’ living rooms and gardens.

"A breath of fresh air in this world of gloomy winters and moody blues." - Huw Stephens, Radio 1

Luke Leighfield started playing piano at the age of four. At around 16 he started playing in awful bands at school before eventually starting his solo project aged 17.

Many demos emerged over the next couple of years, before Luke recorded his debut album Garde Ta Foy, Garde Ta Foy in the summer of 2006 after his first year at university.

Luke subsequently took a year out of university to play violin for Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (Atlantic Records) from spring 2006 but in the autumn of 2006 he left the band and Luke began what was to become a year of heavy gigging in support of his self-released album Garde Ta Foy, Garde Ta Foy.

From autumn 2006 until autumn 2007 when he commenced his second year of studies at university, Luke played gigs almost every day in houses, pubs and venues all over the UK, many of them with friend and fellow solo artist Sam Isaac.

This heavy touring meant that when Luke released his second album Fan The Flames on December 3rd 2007, this date was also his 250th gig.

Luke maintained his gruelling gig schedule throughout 2008, whilst simultaneously continuing to study for his Music and English degree at The University of Southampton.

In the summer of 2008 he completed a month long tour which took in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden and Russia.

He then followed this with a four-date tour of Spain in November 2008. In December 2008 he revisited Germany for three gigs, before continuing to China for an eight-date tour over Christmas.

Luke is the first UK indie artist to do a tour of China ever!

After China, Luke went to play three shows in Russia, including a sold out 350 capacity show at Gogol in Moscow.

Future overseas touring plans include France in March 2009 and Japan in June 2009 to support the release of a Japanese greatest hits CD (a compilation of all of Luke's releases).

Luke's third album will be recorded in summer 2009, and released worldwide in autumn 2009.

To date, Luke has played over 350 gigs worldwide, with most dates booked solely by Luke without the help of a booking agent. He continues to tour the UK regularly, and perform at fan's house parties.

Here's some nice words other people have written about Luke Leighfield:

"Luke Leighfield writes amazing songs, and is brilliant live. My bet is he will either go stellarly massive, or even if for some reason he doesn't, will still be selling out massive venues in twenty years as the devoted following will have grown to that size." - Marsha Shandur, Xfm

"A breath of fresh air in this world of gloomy winters and moody blues." - Huw Stephens, Radio 1

" (Fan The Flames review). "Luke's positivity is delicately handled and crafted into refreshing melodies." - Mike Haydock, Rock Sound Magazine

(Fan The Flames review). "Worth your money and definitely worth your time. 4.5/5." - Tracey Lowe, Big Cheese Magazine

(Fan The Flames review). "His chirpy simplicity is a breath of fresh air, and to me, it is certainly pop music at its best." - Daniel Jones, roomthirteen.com

"Fan The Flames is all lush instrumentation, stronger compositions and rich, confident vocal performances... a force to be reckoned with." - Lewis Morton, subba-cultcha.com

(Fan The Flames review). "This album is a treat... full of honest, uplifting, wonderful music." - Phillip May, rocklouder.co.uk

"Simple pop, lyrics anyone can relate to, be inspired by, and a fantastically happy feeling that disseminates through the speakers and gently seeps into the mind." - Stephen Milnes, themusicmagazine.co.uk
