The power pop trio Mother May I offers up 12 infectious hook-laden songs on its debut effort, Splitsville. The immature quirky lyrical content fits nicely within the distinct musical time changes to radiate waves of toe-tapping, head-bobbing melodies. "Painted On," "Birthday Wish," and "Dick and Jane" all encompass the aforementioned qualities that make this album immediately accessible. Mother May I manages to maintain an indie vibe even though this record is a major-label release. The tracks are not overly produced, or overly mature for that matter, but they do offer a youthful garage band feel. This record is well suited for a younger audience that can more fully appreciate a record packed with superficial ear-candy fluff and devoid of any sense of introspection or profundity.
