Beatrice and Leonard's interchanges are humorous and feisty and I cared so much about the characters that I missed them when I finished the book. I have read this three times and its still my favourite. Where can I find a man like James?"

Reading this book was like watching a really good television drama unfold. Joanna Trollope creates completely realistic, believable characters who you can't help caring about.

I sat up all night reading this book because I had to know how the various situations the characters found themselves in resolved. This book is mostly about relationships, some are breaking down, some are just forming and others are on hold, but somehow it makes compelling reading. A hugely readable and likeable book."
