Droga Czytelniczko! Drogi Czytelniku! Książka, którą trzymasz w dłoni, czyli już III tom opowieści o "Niezapomnianych płytach historii rocka", omawia najciekawsze albumy (a przy tej okazji także ważniejsze wydarzenia polityczne, społeczne i kulturalne) czternastolecia zaczynającego się wraz z wydaniem przez Nirvanę longplaya "Nevermind" (1991 r.), a kończącego się pierwszym od lat prawdziwym świętem artystów związanych z rock'n'rollem , czyli koncertami w ramach akcji Live 8 (lipiec 2005 r.). Prawie cały ten okres, a już na pewno jego dziesięć ostatnich lat - i stąd właśnie podtytuł ("Rok cienia") tej części trylogii był czasem zepchnięcia rocka w cień bardziej użytkowo-tanecznych nurtów muzyki popularnej, takich jak techno, house, rap, hip-hop itp. Sprawiło to, że blask dawnych gwiazd rocka mocno przybladł, a nowe z trudem dobijały się nie tylko do sławy, co raczej zwykłej popularności. Ale na szczęście w tych latach potwierdziła się stara prawda, że prawdziwi artyści, prawdziwą sztukę, potrafią tworzyć niezależnie od chwilowej koniunktury. Dzięki temu, mimo, że był to zły czas dla ukochanych przez nich dźwięków (i oczywiście kieszeni), to potrafili nagrać sporo naprawdę świetnych krążków. A ponieważ każda moda musi kiedyś minąć, to i ta, na szczęście, należy już do przeszłości. Dzięki Bogu!.
